Is Raising Cane's Halal?
Raising Cane's is not halal certified in the United States, and we found no official US halal statement. When the chain opened in Kuwait in 2015, its founder said the team sourced products so the Middle East menu would be halal compliant [1]. Those overseas restaurants are run by Alshaya Group [2]. Check for a certificate locally.

Halal status by country
| Country | Status | Details | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | Not certified | No official halal statement or certification found for US restaurants. Halal sourcing was described only for the overseas launch. | [1] |
| Kuwait | Halal | The first overseas restaurant opened in Kuwait City in 2015 with a menu sourced to be halal compliant, per the founder. Run by Alshaya Group. | [1][4] |
Why Cane's is halal in the Middle East but not the US
Raising Cane's sells a very small menu: chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, coleslaw and Cane's Sauce. Whether that chicken is halal depends on the supplier in each country.
When the chain opened its first overseas restaurant in Kuwait City in 2015, founder Todd Graves told a Baton Rouge magazine that the team spent a long time sourcing products, "ensuring that everything we serve is halal compliant" [1]. He said he traveled to the region several times to inspect chicken suppliers [1]. Local news covered the Kuwait opening as the brand's first restaurant outside the US [4].
In the US, we found no matching statement. Raising Cane's has not published a halal policy or a halal certificate for American restaurants, so the honest status is "not certified." The US chicken comes from conventional suppliers that the company has not described as halal.
Raising Cane's in the Gulf
Outside the US, Raising Cane's grows through the Kuwait-based franchise group Alshaya. Alshaya marked ten years of the brand in the Middle East [2] and announced its 50th regional restaurant at Dubai Sports City in the UAE [3].
The halal-compliant setup described at launch came from the founder's own account of the Kuwait opening [1]. We did not find a published certificate for each Gulf country, so if you visit a branch in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar or Bahrain, look for the certificate in store or ask staff which certifier approves the chicken.
None of this applies to US restaurants. A halal setup run by a franchise partner in one region does not change the supply chain anywhere else.
How to check a Raising Cane's near you
If you're in the US, start from the assumption that the chicken is not certified halal. Then:
- Ask for a certificate. A halal location should be able to show a current certificate from a named certifier. We know of no US Cane's that has one.
- Ask about the supplier. Staff may not know, but a manager can sometimes tell you who supplies the chicken.
- Think about the whole meal. Fries and toast are cooked in the same kitchen as the chicken. If the chicken isn't halal, shared fryers and grills matter too.
If you travel to the Gulf, check the certificate at that branch rather than relying on the brand name. Rules and suppliers can change, and franchise sites set their own sourcing within the brand's standards.
Halal chicken finger alternatives
For certified halal chicken in the US, you'll usually do better with independent shops or chains that make halal part of their model. Compare other chicken chains on HalalLookup: Dave's Hot Chicken, Chick-fil-A, Popeyes and Wingstop. For another chicken finger chain, see Layne's Chicken.
