Why Arby's is not halal in the US
Arby's is a US fast-food chain known for roast beef sandwiches. According to its official FAQ, its primary menu covers roast beef, brisket, corned beef, gyro meat, chicken, turkey and bacon [1].
Two facts shape the US answer:
- No halal certificate. The official Arby's FAQ says nothing about halal [1]. With no statement and no certifier listing, the honest answer for the US is "not certified."
- Bacon on the menu. Bacon is one of the core meats Arby's lists [1].
"Not certified" does not prove that the roast beef or chicken is haram. It means no one has checked how the animals were slaughtered or how the food is handled. Beef and chicken are only halal when the animal is slaughtered correctly. Our pages on beef and chicken explain zabiha and machine slaughter.
Arby's in Turkey: halal-certified meat
Arby's is run by local companies in some countries, and those companies choose their own suppliers. In Turkey, the Arby's website says its meat products are made from halal-certified meat supplied by domestic producers [2]. It also lets visitors view the halal production certificates of its meat suppliers [2].
This is a supplier-level claim. It tells you the meat comes from certified sources. It does not say whether every restaurant is separately certified for preparation and cooking. If that matters to you, ask the branch.
Arby's in Canada and the Middle East
Arby's has restaurants in Canada. Its US FAQ mentions participating Canadian restaurants for gift cards, but it makes no halal statement for Canada [1]. Treat Canadian Arby's as not certified unless a branch shows you a certificate.
Arby's also operates outside North America. In 2023, it opened its first restaurant in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the operator Shahia Foods [3]. At that time, Arby's said it had 180 locations in eight countries outside the US [3]. The launch coverage did not mention halal. If you are in the Gulf, look for the halal certificate at the counter.
How to check an Arby's near you
Use these steps before you order:
- Ask for the certificate. A real halal certificate names the certifier, the restaurant and an expiry date.
- Ask what it covers. Supplier certificates, like those posted in Turkey [2], cover the meat. A restaurant certificate also covers storage, cooking and serving.
- Ask about shared equipment. In the US, bacon is a core menu meat [1], so slicers, grills and fryers may be shared.
- Check the sauces. Ask about ingredients if a sauce or seasoning concerns you.
Arby's posts nutrition and allergen details on its website [1]. These help with allergies, but they are not a halal guide.
Halal fast-food alternatives
If you want a roast beef or gyro sandwich with halal meat, local halal delis and Mediterranean grills with a posted certificate are often the easiest choice. Pita Way says every protein it serves is halal-certified.
For other big chains, compare our pages on McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's. You can also read whether gyro is halal in general.
