Is Taco Bell Halal?

Short answer Varies by country

Taco Bell is not halal certified in the United States, and we found no official US halal statement. The US breakfast menu includes bacon and sausage items [3]. Abroad it varies: some UK franchise restaurants report halal-certified food [2], and Taco Bell Malaysia's franchise said all its ingredients would be halal certified [1].

Why Taco Bell's halal status depends on the country

Taco Bell is a global brand, but most restaurants outside the US are run by local franchise partners who choose their own meat suppliers. That is why the halal answer changes from country to country.

In the US, we found no official Taco Bell statement that its seasoned beef or chicken is halal, and no halal certification for the chain. The US menu also includes pork at breakfast: Taco Bell's national breakfast launch featured bacon and sausage A.M. Crunchwraps [3]. With pork in the same kitchen, even a beef or chicken item shares space and tools with non-halal food.

In Malaysia, the franchise holder Disruptive Concepts said before its first opening in 2021 that all ingredients would be halal certified [1]. Malaysia's halal authority is JAKIM, so ask to see the certificate at the outlet.

Taco Bell in the UK and Canada

In the UK we did not find a chain-wide halal policy from Taco Bell. Instead, some franchise-run restaurants have chosen halal suppliers. For example, a franchisee that opened in Preston in 2025 was reported to serve halal-certified food [2]. Other UK branches may use standard meat, so one halal site tells you nothing about the next.

For Canada, we could not find any public halal statement or certification for Taco Bell. Until one appears, treat Canadian locations as not certified.

If a UK or Canadian branch says it is halal, ask which body certified it and check the certificate date. Halal status set by a franchisee can change if the franchise changes hands or switches suppliers.

What to check at a Taco Bell near you

A few quick checks will tell you more than a blog post:

  • Look for a certificate. A halal branch should display a current certificate from a named certifier.
  • Ask about breakfast pork. In the US, bacon and sausage are on the breakfast menu [3]. Ask whether they are cooked on the same grill as other proteins.
  • Consider the meatless menu. Bean-based items avoid the meat question, but they are still made in a shared kitchen. Ask about shared utensils and grills if that matters to you.
  • Check sauces and seasonings. If you want certainty about every ingredient, ask for the full ingredient list for your item.

For questions about shared equipment or flavorings, opinions differ among scholars. Our guide on alcohol as an ingredient explains the main views.
