Is Qdoba Halal?
No. Qdoba Mexican Eats is not halal certified in the United States or Canada, and it publishes no halal statement. The chain serves steak, shredded beef, chicken and pork [1]. With no certificate, its meat cannot be confirmed as zabiha. Qdoba operates only in the US, Puerto Rico and Canada [1]. If you're unsure, ask a scholar you trust.

Why Qdoba is not halal
Qdoba is a fast-casual Mexican chain with several hundred locations in North America [1]. It is owned by Modern Restaurant Concepts, a portfolio company of Butterfly Equity [1]. It runs restaurants across the US [2], plus a few in Puerto Rico and Canada [1].
Qdoba does not publish a halal statement, and we found no halal certifier that lists it. With no certificate and no official claim, the honest answer is "not certified." That does not prove every item is haram. It means no one has checked the slaughter of the beef and chicken for you.
The menu also includes pork as a protein choice [1]. Pork is not halal, and it is prepared on the same line as the other proteins.
Qdoba was once owned by Jack in the Box and later by a group led by Apollo Global Management, before Butterfly Equity bought it in 2022 [1]. We found no halal program under any of these owners. Because Qdoba operates only in North America, there is no Muslim-majority market where a local franchise might source halal meat.
Steak, chicken and the serving line
At Qdoba, you build your own burrito, bowl or tacos on a shared line. That matters for a few reasons:
- Beef and chicken. Qdoba's steak, shredded beef and chicken are not halal certified. See our pages on beef and chicken for what makes meat halal.
- Pork. Pork sits on the same serving line as the other proteins [1]. Spoons and gloves can touch more than one tray.
- Grills. Proteins may be cooked on shared grills in the kitchen.
If cross-contact matters to you, ask the staff to change gloves and use clean spoons, or choose a place with a halal certificate.
Is a vegetarian bowl or queso an option?
Some Muslims order a meat-free bowl at chains like Qdoba. Here is what to think about:
- Queso and cheese. Cheese may be made with animal rennet, and scholars differ on that. Our cheese page explains the views.
- Rice and beans. Ask whether the rice or beans are cooked with any animal fat or stock.
- Sauces and dressings. Some sauces use vinegar or flavorings. Our white wine vinegar page covers wine-based vinegar.
Read the official nutrition and allergen info for each item before you order. Recipes change, so check it each time.
How to check, and halal Mexican alternatives
- Ask for a certificate. If a branch says it is halal, it should show a current certificate with the certifier's name and address.
- Check certifier directories. Halal certification is granted per location, so look the branch up with the certifier.
- Ask about the line. Ask staff to use clean utensils if you skip the meat.
For Mexican-style food, see our pages on Chipotle, Taco Bell and Talkin' Tacos. Talkin' Tacos markets itself as halal Mexican, and its page explains what that claim means.
Frequently asked questions
Is Qdoba chicken halal?
No. Qdoba does not say its chicken is halal, and we found no halal certification for any Qdoba location. Treat the chicken as not certified.
Does Qdoba serve pork?
Yes. Pork is one of Qdoba's protein choices, next to steak, shredded beef and chicken [1]. It is served on the same line as the other proteins, so ask for clean utensils.
Is Qdoba halal in Canada?
No official halal statement exists for Qdoba's Canadian locations [1]. Treat them as not certified unless a branch can show you a current halal certificate.
Is Qdoba steak halal?
Not as far as anyone can confirm. Qdoba does not publish a halal statement for its steak or name a halal supplier. Without a certificate, the slaughter method cannot be verified.
