Is Perdue Chicken Halal?

Short answer Depends

Some Perdue chicken is halal certified, but not all of it. Perdue Foodservice sells halal-certified PERDUE HARVESTLAND breaded tenderloins [1], and Perdue's international arm offers halal-certified poultry for export [2]. We found no official halal claim for regular Perdue chicken in US supermarkets, so check each pack for a halal mark. If you're unsure, ask a scholar you trust.

Which Perdue chicken is halal

Perdue is one of the largest chicken companies in the US, and it sells through several channels. The halal answer is different for each one.

Foodservice. Perdue Foodservice, the arm that sells to restaurants, schools and caterers, has a page for halal-certified chicken. It highlights two frozen PERDUE HARVESTLAND breaded chicken tenderloins, a pre-browned one and a buttermilk one, and links to a wider "Halal Certified" product filter [1]. These products are aimed at operators who want to put halal chicken on their menu [1].

Export. Perdue's international business says it offers halal-certified poultry products to customers around the world, and shows a halal certification badge [2].

Supermarkets. We found no official Perdue statement that its regular fresh or frozen retail chicken is halal. Neither of the pages above makes that claim [1][2]. So a standard Perdue pack in a US store should be treated as not certified unless it shows a halal mark.

What Perdue does not say

Perdue's halal pages leave some questions open, and these matter to many Muslim buyers.

  • The certifier. Neither page names the halal certification body [1][2]. A logo is shown, but no organization is named.
  • The slaughter method. The pages do not say whether the birds are hand slaughtered, machine slaughtered or stunned before slaughter [1][2]. Some Muslims accept machine slaughter or stunning under a recognized certifier, and others only accept hand-slaughtered (zabiha) poultry.
  • Retail availability. The foodservice page is written for restaurants and other operators, not shoppers [1].

If any of these points matter to you, contact Perdue and ask for the certifier's name, then check that certifier's standards. Perdue Foodservice says all its menu claims are third-party verified, but does not name the verifiers [1].

How to check Perdue chicken in a store or restaurant

  • At the store, look for a halal mark on the label. If there is none, the pack is not certified.
  • At a restaurant that says it uses Perdue halal chicken, ask to see the supplier invoice or the halal certificate for that product, and the certifier's name.
  • For PERDUE HARVESTLAND, don't assume every item is halal. Only specific items are listed as halal certified [1]. Our Perdue Harvestland chicken page covers that line.

Labels and product lines change, so check the current pack every time.

Other chicken brands to compare

If you can't find halal Perdue chicken near you, compare other US brands:

  • Is Tyson chicken halal?
  • Is Just Bare chicken halal?
  • Is chicken halal? explains the general rules for poultry and slaughter.

Many US cities also have halal butchers and grocery stores that sell certified zabiha chicken. Ask which certifier they use and whether the birds are hand slaughtered.
