Is Trident Gum Halal? Official Answer
Trident gum is not halal certified. The Trident US website says its gum is not presently certified for either halal or kosher diets [1]. Trident Original lists no gelatin, but it does contain glycerin, gum base and natural and artificial flavor, with no source stated [2]. If you're unsure, ask a scholar you trust.

What Trident says about halal
Trident answers this question on its own US website. Its FAQ says Trident Gum products are not presently certified for either halal or kosher diets [1].
The same FAQ also says Trident has not assessed its gum against a vegetarian or vegan claim. It tells shoppers to read the packaging to see whether a product contains animal ingredients [1].
So the official position is clear: no halal certification, and no promise either way about animal-derived ingredients. That is why we list Trident as not certified, not as halal or haram.
This answer comes from the US Trident site. Trident is also sold in other countries, and recipes and labels there can differ. If you buy Trident outside the US, read that country's pack. A halal logo there would only count if it names a certifier you can check. We did not find an official halal-certified Trident product for any country.
What's in Trident Original
The ingredient list for Trident Original is: sorbitol, gum base, xylitol, glycerin, and natural and artificial flavor. In smaller amounts, it adds acesulfame potassium, aspartame, BHT, mannitol, soy lecithin and sucralose [2].
Here is how those ingredients look from a halal point of view:
- Sweeteners (sorbitol, xylitol, mannitol, aspartame, acesulfame, sucralose) are not animal products. Sorbitol and xylitol are sugar alcohols, which are not the same as drinking alcohol. See our sugar alcohol page.
- Glycerin can come from plant oils, animal fat or synthesis, and the label doesn't say which [2]. See our glycerin page.
- Gum base is a mix of ingredients that companies rarely list in detail [2].
- Natural and artificial flavor doesn't say whether alcohol was used as a carrier.
- Soy lecithin is plant-based.
Should you chew it?
There is no gelatin, pork or carmine on the Trident Original label [2]. The open questions are the glycerin, the gum base and the flavors, because their sources aren't stated.
Muslims handle this in different ways. Some chew gum that has no clearly haram ingredient on the label. Others only use products with a halal certificate, and Trident doesn't have one [1]. Both are common approaches. Our general guide to chewing gum walks through the common gum ingredients in more detail.
If you want a firm answer about glycerin or gum base, use the contact page on the Trident website and ask which sources they use for the pack you buy.
Other gums to compare
Other big gum brands give different answers. Compare our pages on Extra gum, Orbit gum, Mentos gum and Hubba Bubba. In each case, check the label for the same three things: gelatin, glycerin and a halal logo with a named certifier.
Trident sells many flavors and formats, such as Trident Vibes and white varieties, and their ingredients can differ from Trident Original. Read the label on the exact pack you buy, since recipes can change.
