Is Haribo Halal?
It depends on where it was made. Haribo's UK range uses pork gelatin, except clearly marked halal products made with beef gelatin [1]. German Haribo mainly uses pork gelatin [6]. Haribo made in Turkey is halal certified [4][5]. US Goldbears list gelatin without a source [3]. If you're unsure, ask a scholar you trust.

Halal status by country
| Country | Status | Details | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | Depends | US Goldbears list gelatin without naming the source. Haribo US says it offers a variety of halal products and that ZING Sour Streamers and S'ghetti are vegetarian. | [2][3] |
| United Kingdom | Some items halal | The UK range uses pork gelatin. The exceptions are halal products made with beef gelatin, which are clearly marked. Vegetarian and vegan lines have no animal gelatin. | [1] |
| Canada | Depends | Haribo's Canadian FAQ does not name the gelatin source for Canadian packs. Read the label and look for a halal mark. | [6] |
| Germany | Not halal | Haribo says its gelatin products sold in Germany are mainly made with pork skin gelatin. | [6] |
| Turkey | Halal | All Haribo Turkey products are halal certified (MUI and TSE certificates) and made in Istanbul, mostly with beef gelatin. | [4][5] |
Menu items to know about
| Item | Status | Note | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goldbears (US) | Depends | Lists gelatin; source not stated on the US product page. | [3] |
| ZING Sour Streamers and ZING Sour S'ghetti (US) | Not certified | Haribo US lists these as vegetarian, so they have no gelatin. Not halal certified as far as we found. | [2] |
| Haribo halal range (UK) | Halal | Made with beef gelatin and clearly marked as halal on the pack. | [1] |
Why Haribo depends on the factory
Haribo is a German company with factories in many countries. Each factory uses its own gelatin supply, and gelatin is what makes the gummies chewy.
In Germany, Haribo says its gelatin products mainly use pork skin gelatin [6]. In the UK, Haribo says its range uses pork gelatin, with one exception: halal products made with beef gelatin, which are clearly marked [1]. In Turkey, Haribo says all its products are certified halal, made at its Istanbul factory, and mostly use beef gelatin from halal-certified suppliers [5]. Haribo Turkey publishes MUI and TSE halal certificates [4].
So the same gold bear can be halal in one country and made with pork in another.
Haribo in the United States
The US Goldbears product page lists gelatin but does not say which animal it comes from [3]. Haribo US says it offers a variety of halal products and asks shoppers to contact its consumer care team for details [2]. It also names ZING Sour Streamers and ZING Sour S'ghetti as vegetarian options, which means no gelatin [2].
Haribo US also sells a kosher line through a partner, made in Austria and marked on the pack [2]. Kosher gelatin is not automatically halal, so check with your scholar on that.
In practice, US shoppers have three paths:
- Buy packs with a halal mark, such as Turkish-made Haribo.
- Buy vegetarian or vegan lines with no gelatin.
- Ask Haribo consumer care about a specific product's gelatin.
How to spot halal Haribo
- Made in Turkey: Haribo Turkey says packs made there are marked as Turkish-made and carry halal certification [5].
- UK halal packs: Haribo UK says halal products are clearly marked on the pack [1].
- Vegetarian or vegan marks: these lines have no animal gelatin [1], though they are not always halal certified.
Avoid assuming that a Haribo pack is halal because a store keeps it near other halal goods. Look for the mark yourself. Recipes change, so check the current package label every time.
What scholars say about gelatin
Scholars agree that pork gelatin is not halal under the mainstream view. Beef gelatin from halal-slaughtered animals is broadly accepted. For beef gelatin from animals not slaughtered in a halal way, views differ. Some accept it through istihalah, the idea that a full chemical change creates a new substance. Others do not.
We don't issue rulings. Read our gelatin and porcine gelatin pages for the main views. If you're unsure, ask a scholar you trust.
