Is Domino's Halal?

Short answer Varies by country

No, Domino's is not halal certified in the United States, and we found no halal statement for US or Canadian stores. In the UK, Domino's does not promote its stores as halal [3]. Some Muslim-majority markets differ: Indonesia's halal authority lists a certificate for Domino's restaurants there [2]. If you're unsure, ask a scholar you trust.

Domino's halal status in the US and Canada

Domino's does not claim to be halal in the United States. Its latest annual report says most US meat toppings come from a single supplier, and it says nothing about halal [5]. We found no halal certificate and no halal statement from the company for its US stores, so the honest answer is that its meat is not certified. That covers chicken, beef and every other meat topping.

The same is true in Canada. Domino's runs its own supply chain centers there that serve most Canadian franchised stores, and again it makes no halal claim [5]. We found no halal statement from Domino's Canada.

Domino's is a franchise system, so in theory a single owner could seek a halal certificate for one store. We did not find any official source naming a halal-certified US Domino's. If a store tells you its chicken is halal, ask to see a current certificate from a recognized certifier. Without one, there is no way to confirm the claim.

Also remember that pepperoni is traditionally made with pork. Domino's publishes ingredient and allergen details for US stores, so check them before ordering. Our pepperoni page explains what to look for.

Domino's in the UK

The UK has a longer history with this question. In 2009, Domino's turned a store in Hall Green, Birmingham into its first halal-only UK branch [4]. It later tested halal-only menus in Hall Green, Bradford and Blackburn. By 2010, all three stores had gone back to the standard menu, which included pork again [1].

Today, Domino's UK does not market its stores as halal. A company spokesperson told the Yorkshire Evening Post that its stores and meat are not presented as halal approved, while two chicken products were said to be halal [3]. That article does not show a date, so the details may be out of date. Even where a chicken item is halal, it is cooked in the same ovens and handled on the same counters as pork toppings.

If you live in the UK, ask your local store directly, and look for a certificate from a body such as HMC or HFA.

Countries where Domino's is halal

Domino's is run by different master franchise companies in different countries, and each one sets its own sourcing. That is why the answer changes when you cross a border.

Indonesia is a clear example. The country's halal authority, MUI, lists a halal certificate for Domino's Pizza restaurants, checked by its audit body LPPOM MUI [2]. In 2021, MUI also said that viral claims about pork in Domino's sauces were about stores in the US and South Africa, not Indonesia [2].

Other Muslim-majority markets may also have certified stores, but we have only listed countries where we found a certifier or official source. When you travel, look for the local halal logo on the store or the delivery app.

What to order and how to check

If you eat at a US, UK or Canadian Domino's, the safest choice is a meat-free order. A plain cheese or veggie pizza avoids meat toppings, but a few points still matter:

  • Cheese. Some cheeses use animal rennet. Scholars differ on whether this is a problem. Our cheese pizza page covers the views.
  • Shared ovens and tools. Pizzas with pork go through the same ovens and are cut with the same cutters. Ask for a fresh cutter if this matters to you.
  • Sauces and crusts. Check Domino's ingredient list for any alcohol-based flavoring or animal fat.
  • Certificates. A real halal store can show a dated certificate that names the certifier and the store address.

Halal pizza alternatives

Compare other big pizza chains before you order. Our pages on Pizza Hut, Papa John's and Little Caesars cover their status in the US and abroad. In many US cities, local halal pizza shops offer certified chicken and beef toppings, including halal pepperoni. Ask to see the certificate, just as you would at a chain.
